Velocity Weight Loss Diet
I came across the velocity diet which has given me some ideas for further weight loss.
Since damaging my knee, I found it uncomfortable to go for runs, but this diet recommends avoiding running and doing daily fast-paced walks instead. This I can do. The problem with running is that you may lose muscle mass when you only want to lose fat. But walking is a way to be active when you are not doing training.
The Velocity Training program fits in with my beliefs that you need to do resistance training to maintain or build muscle and at the same time burn calories by upping your activity levels.
So if your muscles are recovering from exercise e.g. your upper body muscles, your body should burn fat for energy since it has been “programmed” to rebuild the tired muscles bigger and stronger.
If you are overweight, running may be too stressful on your knee joints so you end up running very slowly anyway with high impact, so walking will reduce the impact on your joints and you can still burn calories.
Another interesting aspect of Velocity Training is that they tell you to perform the movements as quickly as you can whilst maintaining good form. This seems like a great way to maximize the resistance even if you maybe selected too light a weight and you can maintain the intensity level as you become stronger using the same equipment.
I did the 1st workout at beginner level (since I haven’t regularly worked out at a gym for 3 years) today. It was very quick to do the 40 reps of the 3 basic exercises, so no trouble at all and I do feel it had an impact on my body. At home I have a bench and some dumbbells which were featured in the exercises mentioned.
I’m starting with the daily walks tomorrow morning. I have my eye on the hill across from the river, up to the top and back I think!

My Fridge consists of:
Mainly spam and frozen pre-cut white bread.
Within a few minutes this allows me to be able to toss together a spam sandwich LOL
I tend to eat meals prepared from fresh food. But this does entail daily shopping which may not suit many busy people.
Back on topic: I have been walking regularly and I’m finding it more enjoyable than running. Plus my weight is starting to reduce.
