Running Progress

Over the last 11 days I have been running a lot and doing a few simple exercise routines. The result has been 4 kg of weight loss which is 4% down from my starting weight.

Doing the running has boosted my fitness level so I can now run 10 km in about 1 hour. The first time I did 10K was kind of crazy where I started out by running to the top of a hill which took 25 minutes and then decided to cover a total of 10 km.

I was really satisfied to make it to the top of the hill without stopping. I have done this route before but had to walk some of it since parts of the route are very steep!

Also, on that occasion I recorded it on HD video which I want to edit and publish online. The route goes past houses in Japan, a river and up a winding road through a bamboo forest. Along the way I climb up to check out a Golden Buddha monument, park and cemetery up on the top of the hill where there are warnings of bears in the area. Then I venture into a path through trees along a mountain ridge that seemed to go on for miles so turned back.

Today I did a flat run alongside a river where they have a cycling route with distance markings on it. I got my planning a bit wrong, so only covered 9.2 km but it was good.

I like running up hills but coming down is a problem since it puts so much stress on the knees, so I often walk down steep parts of hills.

Now I am over 40 I am being careful not to sustain injuries that will take a long time to recover from and stop me from running. Running in nice places is fun and a huge calorie burner so I recommend you at least start walking in parks and in the countryside to get the great benefits this kind of exercise offers. It must help a lot to reduce stress too.
