As I have mentioned in the past, Andy, I used walking to overcome back injury, the nature of which I am still unsure, but forcing myself to walk more regularly, and for longer periods of time (depending on the pain), until I was able to walk and enjoy walking without the pain. With work these days, I get plenty of walking and exercise. I don't do too much exercise beyond some weight lifting to maintain strength so that the amount of lifting I do at work does not hurt as much at the end of the day; at least that's my theory and I'm sticking to it. My knees have taken enough damage over the years, some of which was brought on by an utterly stupid manuever on my part which could have been avoided if I had put safety first. Walking is something I do enjoy. Exercise has never been on my list of things I enjoy, but after what I went through with the back pain, envying others who could just get out and walk or run, I thoroughly enjoy being able to walk where I want. Running is uncomfortable with my knees the way they are, but it does not bother me much when walking and I am more than fine with that. I do prefer the lower impact exercise of walking.

I find it helps keep my weight down and my mental health in shape. When I got sick, quitting my daily regime was the worst thing I could have done for myself. Not only did I feel bad physically, but my mental health was deteriorating to the point where I no longer had motivation to move. That was a dark place in my life. Consistency is key. If I keep on top of it I feel better and I know I'm doing something good for myself. This is a great way to enjoy beer. No feeling of guilt since we earnt the beer after a 30/40/50 minute run that easily exceeds the extra calories from the beer and made us feel healthy and alive. I have read that one beer a day (especially dark) is more healthy for you than drinking no beer at all. When I'm ready to wind down I will have a bottle of beer (some water as well) and head to bed. I have never heard of drinking beer after exercising. Perhaps I will try this after my next nightly run. I tend to go for runs in the morning as I feel it gives me a long-lasting mental and physical boost for the day. I wish I had scenery like yours. That would make it much more enjoyable. Subdivisions and construction work tend to be uninspiring. Running and Jogging is a main element of my health maintenance. I find it helps keep my weight down and my mental health in shape.
