Why We Get Fat As We Get Older

Here are my thoughts on why we get fat as we get older.

One major reason is that our metabolism slows down since we are no longer growing into an adult. There is nothing that we can do about this, but we can try to fight it by increasing our metabolic rate via exercise.

But, back on topic, [...]

Daily Running

Now my knee has mostly recovered, I am able to run again. I think running is one of the best ways to lose weight since it is physically demanding, gets your heart rate up and is fairly enjoyable due to being able to vary the routes you take and observe the scenery around you.

To start with [...]

Ideas For Weight Loss

After having some set backs after injuring myself, here are some ideas based on what I am doing now:

Cycling up hills and back around to home base – this is easy on the body but still a good workout

Working one muscle group before a shower such as doing 3 sets of push-ups and making them as [...]

Killer Workouts

I think I got this idea from Scoobie on Youtube where he does killer targeted workout routines full of grunting and possibly aimed at gay guys.

So my present workouts are aimed at one muscle per day. This is a great way to work out if you are lazy about working out like me, I think.

My idea [...]

Hill Blasting Challenge

Today I decided to get to the top of the hill as fast as I could. But as I got ready to go out, there was some heavy rain. So in frustration I did some crunches and some deep push ups where I kept my head up and lowered my chest to the floor. This makes [...]

How I am Losing Weight

I have lost a significant amount of weight recently. It is mostly down to increasing my activity levels.

Here are the 2 aspects to this that you may be able to duplicate:

1. I am going for long walks of up to 4 miles at a time, taking in some steep hills. This burns over 400 calories at [...]

Getting Ready For Summer

I know how hard it is to get back in shape after the Winter. But at least the weather is warmer now.

Yesterday I went for a run again and it was hard but enjoyable to get out and see the hills and stuff. I didn’t run continuously but had some quick stops to get my breath [...]

Body Shape

Since I have been doing my basic exercises and some outdoor exercise such as jogging and hill walking, my body is starting to look pretty good.

Finally Below 90Kgs

After a run today where I wore a jacket because it looked like rain. A combination of the 30 minute run and the excessive sweat brought my weight down to 89.9Kg!

Although my weight will easily regain a couple of kilos after drinking fluids and eating. This is a major achievement since even after hard exercise over [...]

Progress Update

The attention to fitness has really paid off. I do light training with dumb bells and an exercise mat. With the dumb bells I do 15 bicep curls on each arm, shoulder presses (20) and bench press (20). On the mat I do 20 stomach crunches. This is all very quick and easy to do since [...]

2007 Weightloss Plan

Oh dear, I was back to my 0.1 ton weight again after Christmas and New Year celebrations. At least, this year I don’t look so fat but a combination of bulk. I flicked through Chris Ryan’s SAS Fitness Book which is a kind of macho-man’s fitness manual. It suits me since I am this kind of [...]

Daily Press Ups

Lately I had a problem with my back and 2 of my friends have similar problems. And even online I noticed more people mentioning back problems.

So my solution is Press-Ups. Would you like to join the press-up club?

To start with we are doing 1 pressup per day.

Eating Less to Lose Weight

I came across an interesting blog post by a guy who is eating less to lose weight. It’s kind of obvious that you should eat less so your body burns your stored fat rather than food for energy but never the less an interesting read.

He talks about a book written for engineers, programmers and managers that [...]

Lose Weight with Straws

As crazy as it sounds there was a program on Japanese TV about how to reduce your waistline using drinking straws. Candidates tried the system for 2 weeks and there were impressive results. Their weight didn’t change much but the waist measurements in everybody was significantly reduced.

The waist size reduction was between 2.5cm and 8cm Also, [...]

10km Road Race

This is a great way to lose weight :-) 10km of road weaving up and down mountains (ok hills – big ones!). From my jogging, I knew my heart rate should be below 150 bpm for comfortable cruising. But in the race, I found it hitting 163 bpm so well outside the fat-burning-zone.

It was tough but [...]
